Why is Asher smiling?

Well, for one the Red Shirts left. You can read more about that on our other blog.

And really this is just what happens when you tell Asher to smile.

And we think that's awesome.

Cabin Fever

Sorry I don't have any new pictures to share, but I've been lazy and really haven't taken many pictures lately.
As you may have heard we are experiencing a bit of civil unrest here in Bangkok.

We have been at home since Thursday night and have no idea how long it will be before we can really venture out again. We have at least been able to go for a short walk each morning and we have visited the grocery store several times to stock up on food and diapers.

All of this time at home has left us all a little stir-crazy. Asher has been spending a lot of time watching Baby Einstein videos and playing cars with Daddy. We have spent hours reading books, watering the plants outside and talking to Mimi on skype.

Asher is talking more and more every day. Thanks to the Baby Einstein videos he has added the words boat, dolphin, fish, and drink to his vocabulary. His favorite words are still car, bye bye and bus.

We are supposed to have an ultrasound this Thursday, but considering that the hospital is right on the line between military and Red Shirts I doubt we will be going. Hopefully we will be able to get to the hospital soon and see our newest family member for the first time.

The Hampton Baby (#2)

So far there's not much to update with Baby #2. I'm really less than 8 weeks along, but I have already reached the point of not feeling too great. Food is my biggest enemy and biggest love. I only feel good when I am eating, but thinking about food makes me feel nauseous. It's a sick cycle.
And the cravings...
I never really craved anything when I was pregnant with Asher. Now there is always something that I want. I just wish it was Thai food. My cravings are getting a little bit expensive because they only thing that sounds good to me is beef and Mexican food. Not exactly cheap options around here. Thai food is wonderful, but suddenly it all tastes bad. Considering that two weeks ago I ate Thai food at least once a day (usually twice a day) this has been quite a change. Roger and Asher are still eating their rice while I gag and try to figure out what in the world actually sounds good to me.
Luckily Thailand has my wonderful Xylitol gum. I discovered Xylitol a few months before Asher was born and it is amazing. I'm not sure why but it makes me not nauseous. As a result I chew gum from the time I finish breakfast until I go to bed everyday. It works so I'm not complaining.
Next week we have an ultrasound and a check up scheduled. Roger has a day off of school so he will get to go with me and since we have a new house helper Asher will not have to go with me. It's like a date...at the hospital!

My Baby's So Asian...

...he doesn't even like Macaroni and Cheese.

Really. He won't eat it. He actually won't eat anything involving cheese. He will eat fried rice and Thai omelettes. He will eat spring rolls and he absolutely loves Thai iced tea. He even eats all kinds of slightly strange Japanese food that our neighbors give him (tofu waffles anyone?). But he absolutely will not eat Macaroni and Cheese.

Here's a picture of Asher playing with his friend Prim at the playground. They swim together on Saturday mornings and then hit up the park after nap time. Prim thinks Asher is an over-grown baby doll. She follows him around feeding him snacks and giving him drinks of water. I think he's getting spoiled. Now Asher just walks up to Prim and opens his mouth and waits to see what kind of snack she will give him. Did I mention that Prim is only 3 months older than Asher? I think she is trying to spoil Asher just like her nanny spoils her.

And don't worry, updates on Baby #2 will be coming soon.
